The other day my littlest sister finished her A level exams and she and my Ma came over for cake. I made a chocolate and hazelnut cake which I must admit I was pretty pleased with! It was a bit of an experiment for me - I used the Hummingbird Bakery chocolate cake recipe (old favourite) but I usually don't like chocolate cake because of the chocolate flavoured frosting and richness. Inspired by nutella cupcakes, one of our household all time favourites I decided to scale up! I spread nutella between the two sandwiches and used a melted and chocolate and cream fudge icing for the top of the cake. Sprinkled with chopped hazelnuts, it looked beautiful and tasted amazing. I love it when an experiment works out. I can't claim it was much of a risk though, chocolate and hazelnut was never a combination likely to fail ;)
My parents moved house earlier this year and one of the best things is seeing their beautiful garden bloom. It was a wonderful surprise when Ma walked through the door with probably the most beautiful flower arrangement I've had in my house, all picked from the garden! It's been a beautiful few days with the scent of garden roses floating through the house and my favourite flower ever, peonies gracing the mantlepiece!
Next week we're off glamping with friends - to say I'm excited is an understatement! Here's hoping for some sunshine :)
Much love, Rach x
